Millennium Plain, Norwich, NR2 1TF
Swap city streets for wild greenspace on this accessible micro-adventure! Join UEA biologist Dr Will Nash and the Norfolk Wildlife Trust for a friendly, guided walk or cycle from The Forum to Sweet Briar Marshes - Norwich’s finest urban nature reserve.
We’ll follow largely traffic-free paths (walkers and cyclists take parallel routes) and reunite on the reserve for a short explore. Expect bird-spotting, seasonal plant ID tips, lichens and mosses on ancient trees, and stories of floodplains, rewilding, and how cities can make space for nature.
You’ll also have the chance to try simple citizen-science observation apps along the way - bring a smartphone if you have one! Suitable for both walkers and cyclists, this is a gentle, accessible event for families, students, and newcomers to Norwich.
Please note: wear comfy layers and shoes you don’t mind getting a bit muddy. Bikes must be roadworthy; helmets and lights recommended. Under-16s must attend with a responsible adult.
Free, booking essential
Recommended for adults and ages 8+

Will is an evolutionary biologist at the University of East Anglia, fascinated by how UK wildlife adapts to changing environments - from bumblebees on the move to elusive woodland and marine species. He teaches students to love data, even when it misbehaves, and champions neuroinclusive approaches to science and learning. Will is proud to work with the Norfolk Wildlife Trust, connecting cutting-edge research with on-the-ground conservation to help protect Norfolk’s unique landscapes and species.
