Science on Your Doorstep (SOYD) is a project from Norwich Science Festival and The Forum, that brings the wonder of science to families, children and young people across Norwich. The project focuses on key areas of Norwich - previously these were NR3, NR5, NR6 and NR8 and are now Mile Cross, City Centre West, Lakenham and Tuckswood.
Science on Your Doorstep aims to inspire new audiences and spark their curiosity in all things STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and maths) through free, fun and accessible events in partnership with local communities. Research shows that children who have opportunities to participate in inspiring science experiences are more likely to engage in science at school and consider future science careers.
The project began in December 2023, with many events taking place since then. The first phase of the project is set to conclude in December 2025 and the Norwich Science Festival team is keen to continue working our community partners to bring the joy of science to more audiences.
This project is kindly supported by Anguish Educational Foundation, Norwich Freemen's Charity and the John Jarrold Trust with additional funding from UK Science Festivals Network and UKRI.
Science on Your Doorstep events are delivered in partnership with local organisations, community groups, schools in the project target areas and STEAM experts from across Norwich and beyond.

It was a busy summer for Science on Your Doorstep!

A day of nature, science and discovery in NR5

Inspiring science experiences this winter

The popular family event was a huge success this summer.
40 events at the end of November 2025, and more planned!
4,800+ attendees
76% of attendees from target postcodes
87% of visitors say their family is more interested in science after attending one of our events
35% of visitors would not have travelled to the city centre for a similar event
We are currently working on Making Connections, a project that pairs researchers with community groups to work together and design science communication activities. These collaborative activities will be delivered next year in community centres and parks across the city, and at Norwich Science Festival 2026.
