Ever wondered what lies beneath the ice in Antarctica?

In January 2025, a team of researchers witnessed the collapse of a large iceberg in the Bellingshausen Sea, revealing a thriving community of organisms. Dr Meredith Meyer (UEA’s School of Environmental Studies) will share fascinating insight into these 'benthic' communities, and how events such as iceberg collapses impact the health of our oceans.

About Dr Meredith Meyer

Meredith is a biogeochemical oceanographer in the UEA School of Environmental Sciences, specialising in the study of carbon cycling in polar environments. She is a member of the world-renowned UEA Glider Group led by Prof. Karen Heywood. Presenting this talk, Dr Meyer represents an interdisciplinary team of oceanographers from the University of East Anglia, the University of Cambridge, the British Antarctic Survey and colleagues from the Schmidt Ocean Institute.
