How can vast pools of data change the way we understand health?
Dr Marina Escalera Zamudio and Dr Cenk Celik will share the ways in which big data and AI are transforming medicine – from monitoring pathogens to inform the design of future vaccines, to using technology to track cancer cell architecture.
Featuring a Q&A with the panellists, this fascinating event invites audiences to consider how data can help us to imagine something different for our future.
Please note that this event will include discussion of disease, epidemics, and cancer.

Dr Marina is an expert in virus evolution, genomics and epidemiology. She is a Senior Research Fellow at University College London (UCL) and a Rosetrees-UCL Excellence Fellow.
She leads international projects on virus evolution, including developing new AI approaches to predicting immune escape in viruses, and social-oriented programs to build sustainable genomic epidemiology virus surveillance systems in Mexico.
Dr Celik is a Research Fellow at University College London. He studies how cancers grow, change and sometimes lie dormant, using advanced computer-based tools to map their positions within a tumour.
By combining this cellular “conversation map” with cutting-edge AI data analysis, Cenk’s work sheds light on how cancer is shaped by its environment and how its hidden dynamics could inform future treatments.
