The seventh Norwich Science Festival, 11-18 February 2023, was bursting with over 200 talks and workshops. With unprecedented sales for events, hugely positive feedback and more partners than ever, the move to February half term was a great success.
Highlights included Bonnie Garmus, author of bestselling novel 'Lessons in Chemistry', a live ice water challenge outside The Forum, The Biggest Science Quiz Show Ever and Boogie on the Brain with Dr Peter Lovatt.
"Everyone we spoke to was so excited about their field/role that it was infectious! It made it easy to have conversations, engage with activities, and learn in the process. Every single individual was fantastic, thank you so much for all you do."
Our highly-popular Explorium embraced experimentation, innovation and curiosity – and featured nearly 100 stands across the eight-day Festival, including a day dedicated to the cutting-edge research from scientists at Norwich Research Park. We welcomed local independent bookshop The Book Hive who opened a popup store selling over 1,000 books.
For the first time we partnered with nearby shopping centre, Chantry Place, to present the Extraordinary Extinct™ dinosaur trail, alongside a range of other activities.
"We liked that it was inclusive to many ages and abilities. I felt my son was included as much as my elderly mother. It was wonderful to learn with my children whilst laughing and having fun."
This year we expanded our reach with a new satellite event at East Norfolk Sixth Form College, Gorleston-on-Sea. It was a great chance for families in the area to get hands-on with tech, and share in Professor Ben Garrod’s enthusiasm for all things extinct! The affordable £4 workshops were almost sold out, as locals flocked to the school for coding, robotics, stomp rockets and e-sports. We continued with our fabulous offer at Gresham’s School, Holt – bringing science to life in the Dyson Building.
