Norwich Science Festival learning programme to inspire future scientists

2023, Norwich Science Festival

The Norwich Science Festival Learning Programme returns 16 January–3 February – with dedicated events for schools, youth groups and home-educated learners, all designed to inspire young minds.

Students of all ages and Key Stages can join in the fun 16 January–3 February, with everything from kitchen science and tracking wildlife, to hacking your brain, rocket launches and crime scene investigation!

Claire Mutimer, Norwich Science Festival Producer, said:

“We are very excited to launch the Norwich Science Festival Learning Programme for January 2023 –it is open to all schools and is packed with unique opportunities and memorable educational activities for all ages.”

“Do have a look at the programme at norwichsciencefestival.co.uk/learning and book soon, directly with the learning provider, because I think many of the activities will sell out very quickly!”

Highlights include A Pirate Adventure from The Little Story Telling Company – a science-based treasure hunt; searching for animal clues in Discover: Tracks and Signs from Pensthorpe; a Secondary School STEMM Showdown online quiz with Youth STEMM Award and BBC Stargazing Live presenter and astronomer Mark Thompson; and exploring Ins and Outs: The Science of Food – where UEA academics team up with BBC Gastronaut Stefan Gates and his Fartology show, for a fun and informative day all about food, with a spot of farting – or at least the science behind it!

Hannah Tough, Public Events Office at University of East Anglia (UEA), said:

“UEA is passionate about inspiring future generations and delighted to be a part of the Norwich Science Festival Learning Programme, extending our public engagement beyond the main Festival dates.”

“Young people will be invited to learn all about the science behind the food that we put in to our tummies and the bodily functions that follow…  BBC’s Stefan Gates is sure to thrill audiences with his Fartology show – an event not to be missed!”

The Learning Programme is presented by The Forum as part of Norwich Science Festival, and works with respected science providers from the county and beyond, including UEA, Norwich Puppet Theatre, and Sainsbury Centre.

The main Norwich Science Festival is back to celebrate science Saturday 11–Saturday 18 February 2023 at venues in Norwich and beyond – full of intriguing discoveries, inspiring talks, engaging exhibitions, cutting-edge research and lots of family fun, with the full programme to be revealed in the new year!
