Spirals in Time: the secret life and curious afterlife of seashells
Marine biologist Helen Scales explores the wonders of the animals that make seashells (the molluscs) in her latest book, Spirals in Time, as featured on Radio 4’s Book of the Week.
These are some of the most ancient, abundant and successful animals on the planet, from snails that ‘fly’ underwater to octopuses accused of stealing shells from other animals and sailing around in them like little boats. For this talk Helen will share some of her favourite stories from her book, as she charted the course of seashells through human history and the ocean depths.
